Food for thought, (I believe I’m the only candidate on pathway 2):

As you may know, two pathways exist for ballot access in TX.

  • 1st pathway ... an application with the Texas Elections Commission and write a check, you are on the ballot, done.
  • 2nd pathway, an application with the Texas Elections Commission and a petition, time consuming verification research, additional time for challenges and auditors to review your petition, then you are on the ballot, done.

The petition process is a less traveled grass-roots journey, which will add silver to any dark-head-of-hair in any time period, including my own as the example, permission to laugh granted. After face-to-face encounters, a candidate must obtain a required count of qualified signatures, based on office sought, from registered voters within the boundaries of the office. After petition is completed, one travels to Austin to present the petition in whole.

I walked up driveways and knocked on doors. Some people answered. Majority of people did not answer. Some people welcomed me. Other people closed their doors. I kept going. I learned what our community wants from a representative. I learned what people would like to see in legislation.

I walked door to door to meet people at more than 2,000 homes. I engaged people in conversation. I listened to people in countless coffee shops and various venues. I listened and learned from people in 11+ cities across District 24. I spoke to 1,000+ people from Sept. 5 to Nov. 14, 2019, before I built a platform.

People signed a petition to place me on the ballot because they want a person from outside of government, a self-employed private sector conservative business person as a choice, which is who I am.

The petition process for public office was/is my ultimate civic involvement. My name being certified to be on the ballot was/is my ultimate civic accomplishment.

A few sleepless nights from “charley horses” came with the territory, ;-).
